Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a performer who was born in Newark, New Jersey on the 9th of August 1963. Their parents include gospel stars Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick is also a singer. In Newark Whitney started singing with the choir of the church when she was a young child. at the age of 15, she accompanied her mother singing background vocals on Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. After that, she began to perform backing vocals for Jermaine, Lou Rawls, and even her mother. Her work as the vocalist featured in New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several major record labels, including Arista and Arista, which she signed her contract in 1982, where she continued to work for the remainder of her life with them.
