Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a singer from Newark New Jersey on the 9th of August, 1963. The parents of her are gospel singers Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick also sings. As a child she was a singer in the New Hope Baptist Church Choir in Newark. By the time she reached the age of 15years old, Houston was singing professionally backing vocals with her mother on Chaka Khan's hit song in 1978 Im Every Woman. She continued to offer back vocals to Lou Rawls Jermaine Jackson and her mother, and also worked briefly as models on the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. The singer was first a featured singer for New York-based New York Funk band Material. Her quality of vocal performance attracted the attention of big record labels like Arista which she joined in 1983. Whitney Houston, her debut album that debuted in 1985 was the most-sold album by an unproven singer. The album contained several hit songs like How Will I Know You Give Good Love Saving All My Love For you and The Most Beautiful Love of All. It was instrumental in her achieving seven US charts-topping singles in a row and beat the Beatles. Album was sold out in US 3,000,000 copies and then went to 25,000,000 world-wide. The album earned her the first in her six Grammy Awards. Whitney, her album Whitney was released in 1987, and featuring the smash tracks What Do Broken Hearts go? and I Wanna Dance With Somebody, continued her earlier success. But it came with The Bodyguard (1996) that established her as the top selling album in music. While her movie performance and soundtrack was not popular but the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You and the accompanying album topped charts around the globe for months. That same year she married ex-New Edition singer Bobby Brown with whom she was the sole parent of their daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, born in March 1993. At this point, her documented addiction to drugs began. By 1996, she used to use drugs every day.
